Getting Started
What is MatchdayIQ?
MatchdayIQ is an AI-powered coaching assistant for youth soccer (U8–U18). Track playing time, manage substitutions, generate rotation plans, and share live game updates with parents — all from your phone on the sideline.
How do I create a team?
Sign up, tap "New Team", enter your team name, age group, and season. Then add players with their name, jersey number, and preferred position.
How do I start a game?
Tap "New Game" from your dashboard, pick the opponent and formation, set your starting lineup using the lineup builder, then tap "Kick Off".
How do I import a past game?
From the dashboard, tap "Import Game". Paste game notes, upload a CSV, or use an Excel template — the AI extracts lineups, events, and stats automatically.
What are report cards?
Report cards let you rate each player across four pillars — Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Mental — plus position-specific skills. Season stats are auto-populated, and you can generate an AI summary with development recommendations.
How do practice plans work?
Pick your focus areas, session length, and age group, then the AI builds a structured practice plan from a library of 100+ drills. You can customize, print, or save plans for later. Requires a Coach IQ subscription.
What formations are supported?
35+ formations across 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11. Browse them all on the Formation Guide.
How do tryouts work?
Create a tryout, share a registration link with parents, then evaluate players across multiple sessions using a quick or full rubric. Make cuts over multiple rounds, notify parents by email, and promote finalized players directly to your team roster. See the Tryout Management Guide for details.
Game Day
How does the game clock work?
Tap to start or pause. The clock auto-saves so you never lose time, even if you close the app or switch tabs. Overtime is tracked automatically.
How do substitutions work?
Tap a player on the field, then tap a player on the bench. Two taps and they're swapped.
What is the rotation plan?
MatchdayIQ can auto-generate a substitution schedule so every player gets roughly equal field time. It suggests when to sub and who to swap based on your roster and formation.
How do I log events?
Tap the event button to open the event sheet. Log goals, assists, cards, shots, and more with big tap targets designed for sideline use.
What are playing time alerts?
When a player has been on the bench too long (based on your threshold), you'll get a vibration buzz and sound alert so no one gets forgotten.
Venues
What are venues?
Venues let you save the fields your team plays at — home grounds, away pitches, and training locations. Once saved, they appear as suggestions when creating a new game so you don't have to re-type the location every time.
How do I save a venue?
When creating a new game, type a location name. If it doesn't match an existing venue, you'll see a "Save as venue" option. Tap it to save the location, and a detail sheet opens where you can add address, field type, parking notes, and more.
Where do I manage my venues?
On the team page, scroll to the Venues section (coaches and managers only). You can add, edit, and delete venues from there. On mobile, tap Venues in the More tab.
What do the field types mean?
Grass — natural grass pitch. Turf — basic artificial surface. Indoor — indoor facility. 3G (3rd Generation) — synthetic grass with rubber crumb infill, the standard for competitive football and typically FIFA/FA approved for league matches. 4G (4th Generation) — longer woven synthetic fibers with no rubber infill, softer but less common for competitive play. The distinction between 3G and 4G matters especially in the UK and Europe where league rules may require specific surface types.
What is pitch size?
Describes what game format the field can host: 7v7, 9v9, or 11v11 — with variants like "small" or "narrow" for pitches that technically fit the format but are tighter than standard. Helps you remember which venues suit which age groups.
What is surface quality?
A simple rating (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor) so you can remember which pitches are in good shape and which to avoid if you have a choice. Helpful when planning training sessions or requesting specific fields from your league.
Can I add parking notes?
Yes. Each venue has a parking notes field — great for away games where parking can be tricky. Notes like "use the lot behind the school" or "street parking only on Oak Ave" help parents and assistant coaches find the field.
Are venues shared across teams?
Venues are per-team. If you coach multiple teams, you'll manage venues separately for each one. This keeps things clean since different age groups often play at different fields.
Parents
How do parents watch a live game?
The coach shares a link. No account needed — parents see the field, score, clock, and events updating in real time.
How do I claim my child?
On the live game page, sign in and select your child from the roster. The coach approves the claim, and you'll see personalized stats for your player.
What is a family group?
A family group lets up to 6 members (parents, grandparents, etc.) share a single Parent IQ subscription. The owner invites others via a code.
What can parents see?
Live field positions, score, clock, event feed, and after the game: playing time stats, AI coaching insights for your child, and the full game summary.
How do I enable push notifications?
On the live game page, tap "Enable notifications" in the banner. You'll be asked to allow notifications — tap Allow. On iPhone, you must first add MatchdayIQ to your Home Screen (tap the Share button → "Add to Home Screen"), then open it from there. On Mac Safari, use File → "Add to Dock" first. Chrome and other browsers work directly.
Can I mute notifications for a specific game?
Yes. Once notifications are enabled, you'll see a "Mute this game" toggle on the live page. You can also manage all your notification preferences from Settings in the footer.
Clubs
What is a club in MatchdayIQ?
A club groups multiple teams under one organization. Club admins get a dashboard to see all teams, track discipline across rosters, and view compliance reports — without needing to be on each team individually.
How do I create a club?
Go to your dashboard and tap "New Club". Give it a name, and you're the owner. Then share an invite code with coaches so they can request to add their teams.
How does a team join a club?
The coach enters a club invite code from their team settings page. This creates a request that a club admin approves. Both sides must agree — no team is added without the coach's action and club approval.
What can club admins see?
Club admins get read-only access to all club teams' rosters, games, events, and stats. They can view playing time compliance reports, card summaries, discipline records, and game activity — but they cannot edit rosters or manage games directly.
Can a club admin edit a team's roster or games?
No. Club admins have read-only oversight. If a club person needs edit access to a specific team, the coach adds them as a manager or coach on that team using the team's invite system.
How does discipline tracking work?
Yellow and red cards from games are tracked automatically. Club admins can also log non-game incidents (behavior, language, etc.). Suspension rules can be configured per club — for example, 2 yellows in a season triggers a 1-game suspension. Suspended players are flagged on game day.
Can a team leave a club?
Yes. The team owner can leave from team settings at any time. The team becomes independent again.
Academy IQ
What is Academy IQ?
Academy IQ is a tier designed for competitive, travel, and academy coaches who need more structure than Coach IQ. It includes pre-match tactical dossiers, opponent scouting, cross-game AI trend analysis, staff notes, set piece planning, and enhanced post-game reports. See Pricing for details.
How does match prep work?
Before a game, open the game and scroll to the Match Prep section. Add your tactical approach, opponent notes, key matchups, set piece assignments (corners, free kicks, goal kicks), and a team talk. Everything is included in the printable Game Prep PDF.
What is opponent scouting?
When you enter an opponent name, MatchdayIQ saves scouting notes (formation, key players, strengths, weaknesses, set piece tendencies) that carry over between games. The next time you play the same opponent, your past notes are automatically available.
How does cross-game trend analysis work?
From the team page, tap "Analyze Trends" to get AI-powered insights across your last 10 games. It identifies recurring patterns — improving results, defensive concerns, playing time trends — and highlights the single most important thing to focus on next. Results are cached so you only regenerate when new games are completed.
What are staff notes?
Multiple coaches can add notes to the same game, organized by tactical phase (buildup, pressing, transitions, set pieces). Each note is attributed to the coach who wrote it. Great for assistant coaches to capture observations during the game.
How does lineup history work?
On the lineup builder when creating a new game, expand "Past Lineups" to see your last 10 games. Tap any past game to reuse its formation and lineup — players are matched to the correct formation positions automatically.
What is the Game Prep PDF?
A printable landscape PDF that combines everything a coach needs before kickoff: opponent scouting report, tactical approach, set piece assignments, starting lineup with formation diagram, bench and unavailable players, and cross-game trends (if available). Print it or share it with your coaching staff.
What is the enhanced AI analysis?
Academy IQ post-game reports include a tactical phase breakdown (buildup, pressing, transitions, set pieces), position group notes (defenders, midfielders, forwards, goalkeeper), and concrete training priorities — not just highlights and suggestions.
How does training-match linkage work?
When creating a practice plan, you can link it to an upcoming game. The AI practice plan generator uses the latest game analysis to suggest drills that address weaknesses identified in recent matches.
If one coach pays for Academy IQ, do all coaches on the team get access?
Yes. Academy IQ is a per-team subscription. Any coach or manager on the team can use Academy IQ features — match prep, staff notes, opponent scouting, and enhanced analysis.
Billing
Is MatchdayIQ free?
Yes! The free tier includes 3 games per team, basic game management, and the live parent spectator view. Upgrade for unlimited games and AI features. See Pricing for details.
What is Parent IQ?
A subscription for parents: AI coaching insights, detailed player stats, family group sharing, and it unlocks unlimited games on your child's team. Starts at $4.99/mo with a 14-day free trial.
What is Coach IQ?
A per-team subscription ($9.99/mo) that unlocks unlimited games, AI practice plans, player report cards with AI summaries, game import, and compliance reports. It's automatically free on any team where a parent subscribes to Parent IQ.
What is Club IQ?
A club-level subscription that gives Coach IQ premium to every team in the club. Pricing is per-team with volume discounts — the more teams, the lower the per-team price. Club admins manage the subscription from the club dashboard.
Does a club subscription cover parents too?
No. Club IQ covers coach premium features for all teams. Parents still need their own Parent IQ subscription for parent-specific features like AI insights and personalized stats.
What happens to my Coach IQ subscription if my team joins a paying club?
Your individual Coach IQ subscription is automatically canceled — the club subscription covers your team. If your team later leaves the club, you'll need to resubscribe individually.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from the Billing page and keep access through the end of your billing period.
How does family sharing work?
The subscription owner creates a family group, invites up to 5 others with a code, and everyone gets Parent IQ benefits.
Troubleshooting
The clock seems wrong after reopening the app
The clock auto-syncs when you return. If it looks off, wait a moment — it anchors to wall-clock time and self-corrects.
My changes aren't showing on the parent view
Updates sync via real-time connection. If the parent's device lost connection, a page refresh will catch up.
Does it work offline?
Basic game management works offline. Changes queue locally and sync when connection returns. We recommend a mobile data connection for live games.
What browsers are supported?
Any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). MatchdayIQ is a PWA — add it to your home screen for the best experience.
I'm not receiving push notifications
A few things to check: (1) On iPhone, notifications only work when MatchdayIQ is added to your Home Screen — open it from the Home Screen icon, not Safari. (2) On Mac Safari, add the site to your Dock via File → "Add to Dock". (3) Check your device's notification settings — make sure notifications are allowed for MatchdayIQ (or Safari/Chrome). (4) Visit Settings → Notification Settings (link in footer) and make sure push is enabled and sub events aren't toggled off.
