Description
A low-intensity 5v2 rondo played in a small circle or grid to gently elevate heart rate while sharpening passing technique and spatial awareness. The possession group keeps the ball moving with one or two touches while two defenders apply light pressure in the middle. This classic warm-up gets players technically engaged from the first minute of training without risking injury from cold muscles.
Setup
Mark a circle or 10x10 yard grid with cones. 5 players on the outside maintain possession while 2 players in the middle try to intercept. When a defender wins the ball or forces it out, they swap with the passer who lost it. Two-touch maximum.
Coaching Points
- +Open your body up before receiving — always know where your next pass is going
- +Play the way you face when possible to keep the tempo high and movement simple
- +Defenders should work together to cut passing lanes rather than chasing individually
- +Keep the tempo relaxed but purposeful — this is a warm-up, not a competition
Progressions
- 1.Reduce to one-touch only to increase passing sharpness
- 2.Expand to 6v2 or 7v2 for larger groups while keeping intensity low
- 3.Allow the outside players to move along the edges to create better angles
