Description
A 4v2 possession exercise in a small grid played at jogging pace to warm up the body and sharpen technical fundamentals. The focus is on technique rather than competition — clean first touches, accurate passing, and good body positioning. Players rotate into the middle after a set time rather than when they lose the ball, keeping the intensity consistently low.
Setup
Mark a 12x12 yard grid with cones. 4 outside players keep possession against 2 in the middle. Two-touch maximum. Rotate the middle pair every 90 seconds regardless of turnovers. For larger groups, set up multiple grids side by side.
Coaching Points
- +Receive on the half-turn to see the field and open up passing options
- +Move after every pass to create new angles — do not stand still
- +Use the inside of the foot for short, crisp passes with proper follow-through
- +Stay relaxed and controlled — this is about getting loose, not winning
Progressions
- 1.Reduce to one-touch to sharpen reactions as the warm-up progresses
- 2.Expand to 5v2 or 4v3 depending on group size
- 3.Add dynamic stretches between rotations — high knees, butt kicks, lunges
