Description

Two teams of six play a directional game with full-size goals at each end, with the emphasis on instant transition when possession changes. The team that wins the ball must attack the opposite goal within 8 seconds or lose possession. This drill develops spatial awareness in transition, quick scanning of the field after turnovers, and the ability to switch the direction of play under pressure.

Setup

Full pitch with two full-size goals and GKs. Two teams of 6 wearing bibs. Normal rules apply but with an 8-second attack clock after each turnover. Coach signals when time expires.

Coaching Points

  • +On winning the ball, look up immediately and identify the forward passing option
  • +The first pass after a turnover should be forward or diagonal to break lines
  • +Off-the-ball players must react to the turnover and create options ahead of the ball
  • +If no forward pass is available, switch play quickly to change the angle of attack

Progressions

  1. 1.Reduce the attack window from 8 seconds to 6 seconds
  2. 2.Add a must-score zone — goals only count if the final shot is taken from inside the penalty area
  3. 3.Play with a neutral midfielder who always joins the team in possession to create a 7v6 overload
