Description

A high-intensity attacking drill where groups of 3-4 attackers take turns attacking a defence and GK on a half pitch. As soon as one wave scores or loses the ball, the next wave immediately attacks from halfway, giving the defence no recovery time. This trains attackers to finish quickly and decisively while the defenders build fitness and resilience under constant pressure.

Setup

Half pitch with a full-size goal and GK. 4 defenders and GK set up in a defensive block. 3-4 groups of 3 attackers wait at halfway. First wave attacks. When the attack ends (goal, save, or turnover), coach immediately plays a ball to the next wave who attack instantly. After all waves complete, rotate defenders.

Coaching Points

  • +Attack at speed — every second wasted allows the defence to set and organize
  • +First attacker drives forward to commit a defender, then decides: shoot or pass
  • +Supporting attackers make runs beyond the ball — do not all stand and watch
  • +Defenders must reset their shape instantly between waves — communication is critical

Progressions

  1. 1.If defenders win the ball, they can counter-attack to a mini goal at halfway for a bonus point
  2. 2.Reduce attacking waves to pairs (2v4) to make finishing more challenging
  3. 3.Time limit: each wave has 8 seconds to score or the attack is dead
