Passing & Possession

An advanced rondo with 5 attackers against 2 defenders in a larger grid. The extra defender forces quicker decision-making and better angles of support. If defenders win the ball or force it out, the last two passers become the new defenders.
Setup
Mark a 10x10 yard grid with cones. 5 players on the outside, 2 defenders in the middle. One ball. Rotate defenders on interception or every 90 seconds. Keep score: 10 consecutive passes = 1 point for attackers.
Coaching Points
- +Triangles everywhere — always form passing triangles around the defenders
- +Do not hide behind a defender, show yourself in passing lanes
- +Speed of thought is more important than speed of pass
- +Communicate with calls like "turn" or "man on"
- +Defenders work as a pair — one presses, one covers the next passing lane
Progressions
- 1.One-touch only for attackers
- 2.Allow attackers to play through the middle (not just around the edge)
- 3.Shrink the grid to 8x8 for increased pressure
- 4.Play "split the defenders" — passing between both defenders = 3 bonus points
