Description

The foundational rondo: 4 attacking players keep possession around the outside of a small grid while 1 defender in the middle tries to win the ball. If the defender wins it, they swap with the player who lost possession. Develops quick passing, body shape, and support angles.

Setup

Mark a 6x6 yard square with cones. 4 players on the outside edges, 1 defender in the middle. One ball in play. Rotate defender every 60-90 seconds or on interception.

Coaching Points

  • +Always show for the ball — give the passer two passing options minimum
  • +Open your body to see the full picture before receiving
  • +Play one-touch when possible, two-touch when needed
  • +Move after you pass — do not stand still and watch
  • +Defender: be patient, cut passing lanes rather than lunging

Progressions

  1. 1.Make it 4v2 for more pressure
  2. 2.Limit to one-touch only
  3. 3.Expand to an 8x8 grid and allow players to move along the edges
