Four groups of players on the corners of a square pass and follow their pass. Develops passing accuracy, movement off the ball, and timing of runs. The ball circulates around the square while players rotate positions.
Setup
Set up a 15x15 yard square with cones at each corner. Split players into 4 equal groups, one group at each corner. One ball starts at one corner. Player passes and runs to the next cone (clockwise or counterclockwise).
Coaching Points
- +Pass to the player's front foot so they can play forward
- +Start your run as you pass — do not wait to see it arrive
- +Check your shoulder before receiving to know what is around you
- +Accelerate through the run, do not jog to the next cone
Progressions
- 1.Add a second ball going the opposite direction
- 2.One-touch passing only
- 3.Add a central player who plays a wall pass before the ball continues
- 4.Play with two touches max — first touch sets, second touch passes
