Passing & Possession
medium intensity
12–20 min9–9 playersU10–U18Description
Six attackers try to keep possession against 3 defenders in a 20x20 yard grid. Unlike a rondo, attackers can move freely within the grid rather than staying on the edges. This encourages off-the-ball movement, spacing, and finding pockets of space.
Setup
Mark a 20x20 yard grid. 6 attackers in bibs, 3 defenders in a different color. Ball starts with an attacker. Defenders swap out every 2 minutes. 8 consecutive passes = 1 point.
Coaching Points
- +Spread out — if you can touch a teammate, you are too close
- +Move into space when you do not have the ball
- +Play the way you face unless you know what is behind you
- +Make the field big when you have the ball to stretch the defense
Progressions
- 1.Make it 5v3 for added difficulty
- 2.Require 3 consecutive one-touch passes for bonus point
- 3.Add end zones: team in possession can score by dribbling into an end zone
- 4.Two-touch limit for attackers
