Description

Players take turns shooting from 20-25 yards after a short combination play. A server plays the ball into the shooter who takes a controlling touch and strikes on goal. Develops proper shooting technique — laces, body over the ball, follow through.

Setup

Use one full-size goal with a GK. Place a cone 22 yards from goal as the shooting mark. A server stands 10 yards to the side with a supply of balls. Shooter makes a short run to the cone, receives a pass from the server, takes a touch, and shoots.

Coaching Points

  • +Plant foot pointing at the target, next to the ball
  • +Strike through the middle or top half of the ball with laces
  • +Body slightly over the ball to keep the shot down
  • +Follow through fully — hips should face the target after the strike
  • +Pick your spot before you shoot, do not just blast it

Progressions

  1. 1.One-touch finish only — no controlling touch
  2. 2.Server plays different types of passes (bouncing, driven, lofted)
  3. 3.Add a passive defender who closes down after the first touch
  4. 4.Alternate feet — every other shot on the weaker foot
