Goalkeeper distribution drill focusing on accurate throws, rolls, goal kicks, and short/long passes to outfield players. Develops the GK's ability to start attacks from the back with the right weight and timing of distribution.
Setup
Full goal. GK starts with a supply of balls. 4 target players positioned at different distances: one at 10 yards (short roll), one at 20 yards (overarm throw), one at 30 yards (driven pass), one at 40 yards (goal kick). GK distributes to each target in sequence.
Coaching Points
- +Roll/throw: bowl the ball to the player's feet, keep it on the ground for easy control
- +Overarm throw: step forward, whip the arm over, follow through at target
- +Goal kicks: drive through the bottom half of the ball, follow through high for distance
- +Short pass: treat it like an outfield pass — inside of the foot, firm and accurate
- +Read the target's body language — are they open to receive? Is there pressure?
Progressions
- 1.Add passive pressure on the target players — they must control and return the ball
- 2.GK picks up a backpass and must distribute under pressure within 5 seconds
- 3.Alternate between short and long distribution randomly on coach call
- 4.Add defenders who press the receiving players — GK must pick the open target
