12–18 min4–6 playersU10–U18Description
A goalkeeper-specific drill that cycles through different save types: low dives, mid-height shots, high shots, and close-range reactions. Three servers take turns shooting from different angles and distances while the GK works continuously.
Setup
Full goal. GK in the middle of the goal. Server 1 is 12 yards out (center), Server 2 is 10 yards out (left), Server 3 is 10 yards out (right). Each server has 3-4 balls. Server 1 shoots, GK saves and recovers, Server 2 shoots, etc. Cycle through 3 rotations.
Coaching Points
- +Set position: feet shoulder-width apart, slight bend in knees, weight forward
- +Low saves: collapse sideways, lead with the bottom hand, get behind the ball
- +Mid-height: push off the near foot, extend body to full stretch
- +High saves: step across and push up, catch at the highest point
- +Recovery: get back to your feet and reset to the center quickly
Progressions
- 1.Servers shoot faster — less recovery time between shots
- 2.GK must touch a cone behind them before each shot (forces recovery)
- 3.Add rebounds — after saving, a second server plays a follow-up shot
- 4.Blind shots: GK starts facing away, turns on whistle and reacts
