Description
Teams race against each other in a relay format where each leg requires the runner to complete a wall pass with a stationed teammate before sprinting to the next station. This competitive drill disguises technical repetition as a fun race, ensuring high engagement while developing the timing and accuracy of give-and-go combinations at speed. Teams that execute sloppy passes lose time, reinforcing quality under pressure.
Setup
Set up two parallel lanes 30 yards long. Place 3 wall players at 10-yard intervals along each lane. Teams of 4 line up at the start. The first runner dribbles to wall player 1, executes a give-and-go, sprints to wall player 2, repeats, then wall player 3, and sprints through the finish. Tags the next runner. First team to have all 4 runners complete the course wins.
Coaching Points
- +Play the pass early so the wall player has time to set and return it — do not run into them
- +The wall player should angle their body to redirect the pass into the runner's path, not straight back
- +Sprint through the return pass — collect it in stride without breaking your running speed
- +Keep the ball on the ground throughout — bouncing passes slow the combination and waste time
Progressions
- 1.Require the wall pass to go through a cone gate 2 yards wide for added accuracy
- 2.Wall players can only use one touch — any extra touch adds a 3-second penalty
- 3.Run the relay backward on the return leg, adding 3 more wall passes for double the volume
