Description
A four-station finishing circuit where players rotate every 3 minutes between near post runs, far post finishes, cutback strikes, and edge-of-the-box shots. Each station has a dedicated server who delivers the ball in a match-realistic manner. This drill gives players high-volume repetitions of the most common finishing scenarios they will encounter in games, building muscle memory and composure in front of goal.
Setup
Use one half of a field with a full-size goal and goalkeeper. Set up 4 stations with cones: Station 1 (near post run, 6-yard box), Station 2 (far post, back post area), Station 3 (cutback from byline), Station 4 (edge of box). Place a server at each station. Groups rotate on the coach's whistle every 3 minutes.
Coaching Points
- +Attack the ball with a positive run — do not wait for it to arrive at your feet
- +Adjust your body shape early to match the type of finish required at each station
- +Near post finishes: redirect with a firm side-foot; far post: aim across the keeper
- +Stay on your toes and be ready to react to deflections or rebounds at every station
Progressions
- 1.Add a recovering defender who chases from behind at each station
- 2.Require one-touch finishes only to increase urgency
- 3.Combine two stations — receive a cutback, lay off, then attack the return ball for a shot
