Description

Players dribble through a slalom course of cones, focusing on close control and ball manipulation. Uses inside and outside of the foot to weave through cones at increasing speed. Foundation dribbling drill for all ages.

Setup

Set up 8-10 cones in a line, 2 yards apart. Players line up at the start with a ball each. Dribble through the slalom and back. Set up 2-3 identical lines to reduce waiting time.

Coaching Points

  • +Use the inside and outside of the same foot to go around each cone
  • +Keep the ball close — small touches, not big kicks
  • +Bend your knees and lean into turns
  • +Head up between cones to check your line
  • +Use the outside of the foot to push the ball past the cone, inside to pull it back

Progressions

  1. 1.Right foot only, then left foot only
  2. 2.Timed runs — compete against your own best time
  3. 3.Use specific moves at each cone (Cruyff turn, step-over, drag-back)
  4. 4.Reduce cone spacing to 1.5 yards for tighter control
