Structured penalty kick practice that simulates match pressure. Players take penalties in a shootout format with the team watching, adding social pressure. Teaches technique and composure when it matters most.
Setup
Standard penalty spot, full goal with GK. Players line up in order (like a real shootout). Each player takes one penalty per round. Best of 5 rounds between two groups. Teammates watch — simulate crowd pressure.
Coaching Points
- +Pick your spot BEFORE you step up — commit to it and do not change your mind
- +Slow, deliberate run-up — rushing leads to mishits
- +Plant foot next to the ball, pointing at target
- +Side-foot for placement to corners, laces for power down the middle
- +GK: stay big, stay central as long as possible, commit late
Progressions
- 1.Players must call their corner before shooting (accountability)
- 2.Add a time limit — 5 seconds from whistle to shot
- 3.Sudden death rounds after the initial 5
- 4.Players who miss must do 5 push-ups (light consequence for pressure)
