10–15 min4–12 playersU8–U18Description
Two players face off in a 1v1 in a 12x15 yard grid with mini goals on each end. Both players attack and defend. Develops all 1v1 skills: dribbling at pace, feints, shielding, tackling, and recovery runs.
Setup
Mark a 12x15 yard grid with a mini goal (or cones for goals) on each short end. Two players start in the middle facing each other. Coach plays a ball in from the side. Whoever wins possession attacks the opponent's goal. Games last 45-60 seconds, then rotate opponents.
Coaching Points
- +Attacker: get the ball moving and attack at speed — make the defender react
- +Attacker: use a change of pace or direction to unbalance the defender
- +Defender: stay on your feet, do not dive in
- +Defender: show the attacker one way (onto weaker foot or away from goal)
- +Both: transition quickly when possession changes
Progressions
- 1.Increase grid size to 15x20 for more space
- 2.Winner stays on, loser rotates out
- 3.Add a 5-second shot clock — must score within 5 seconds of winning the ball
- 4.Play with a full-size goal on one end and mini goal on the other (attacker scores on big goal)
