Description

1v1 dribbling in a narrow channel where the attacker must beat a live defender to reach the end line. This drill develops the confidence and technique to take on opponents in tight spaces using changes of pace, body feints, and skill moves. The defender starts at the midpoint of the channel, forcing the attacker to commit to a move early.

Setup

Mark a 10x20 yard channel with cones. The attacker starts at one end with the ball, the defender starts in the middle. The attacker scores by dribbling past the end line. Rotate roles after each attempt.

Coaching Points

  • +Attack the defender at speed — slow down just before the move to wrong-foot them
  • +Use a change of pace after the skill move to create separation
  • +Protect the ball with your body by keeping it on the far side from the defender
  • +Be decisive — commit fully to the chosen move rather than hesitating between options

Progressions

  1. 1.Narrow the channel to 8 yards to increase difficulty
  2. 2.Add a mini-goal at the end that the attacker must dribble through
  3. 3.Allow the defender to start closer to the attacker for less reaction time
